As an educator, I think this would be an important book for families who have recently lost a pet. It could be used as a gentle way for children (and adults) to discuss their grief honestly. The picture with Lucy, Bella, and the star with a butterfly was my favorite. It made me think of the quote, “When butterflies appear, angels are near,” which has helped me before. This picture book would be a thoughtful addition to a family library or a therapist's office. Anyone looking for a story about losing a pet, healing, or love will want to pick this one.

What a sweet story! This book is a beautiful way to support anyone who has or is experiencing pet loss. Bella’s journey and the illustrations in this book are a wonderful way to open up conversation around sickness, loss and the path for those that continue on.

I loved this imaginative story, and the illustrations were gorgeous and perfect for the subject matter. The words and pictures made me cry numerous times, grieving my own loss and the loss suffered by the author as well. By coincidence, one of my cats was named Bella, who has a shining light of her own. My favorite line from the book is when a bear says to Bella, "I may be strong and brave, but my strength means nothing without tenderness." People should learn and remember that.

A well-told story and beautiful tribute to a beloved pet. Sweet Bella learns some great life lessons on her journey and then teaches one before she leaves.
